This year marks a significant change in the air for Superman. Along with James Gunn’s upcoming movieDC Comics offers a massive shake-up of the status quo, and with great benefit from its distinctive competition: as Brian Michael Bendis in front of him Dan Castlea longtime writer for Marvel’s Spiderman and The Fantastic Four comics, will face the Man of Steel.

Slott will work alongside artist Rafael Albuquerque and colorist Marcelo Maiolo superman unlimited, a new monthly comic starting in May. Billed as the “driving force” for what would be “The Summer of Superman,” the book opens with an asteroid full of green kryptonite crash-landing on Earth. Naturally, this sets off an arms race for the criminal underworld, and parties like Intergang are a lot they want to get their hands on Superman’s biggest weakness.

As for Superman, he will adjust to this new paradigm shift by “creating new alliances, new technologies and new tactics.” Things are changing for his friends and loved ones at the Daily Planet, too. After merging with Morgan Edge’s Galaxy Communications, the outlet has become a multimedia platform that prominently features characters who will be in the film – such as Jimmy, Steve Lombard and Cat Grant – and also features a new IT specialist in Tee-nah, King Solovar’s Godfather of Gorilla City. In a statement to DCSlott said he, Albuquerque and Maiolo will “take Superman — and you — to places you’ll want to escape to every month. Millions of surprising ideas for him, Lois, the supporting cast, classic rogues, and all-new friends and enemies.”

Superman Unlimited will launch on May 21st and will be slotted with “Issue Zero” in DC’s May 3rd Free Comic Book Day issue. According to DC, “Summer of Superman” will include ongoing and limited books about other Supers like Supergirl, Superboy and Krypto.
