Comedy of errors! Sam Billings, Tanveer Sangha’s puzzling Pakistan-like fielding moment saves Moises Henriques
Sydney Sixers skipper Moises Henriques had a torrid outing with the bat in the match against Sydney Thunder in the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) 2024-25. In what was a Sydney derby, the match between the two teams took place on Saturday 21st December at the Sydney Showdown Stadium in Sydney.
Chasing 164 runs, Moises Henriques came in to bat at No.4 after the team lost wickets in quick succession. The all-rounder struggled in his innings early on as he couldn’t get going, looked torrid with the bat and failed to lead from the front.
Even after getting a second life in his innings, he failed to cash in on it. However, the dropped catch gave Pakistan similar fielding moment flashbacks as Sydney Thunder players Tanveer Sangha and wicketkeeper-batsman Sam Billings concocted a comedy of errors.
Tanveer Sangha bowled a leg breaker that fell short on leg stump. Moises Henriques went on the back foot to pull and got a top edge that went straight up, and it looked like it would be an easy catch, and the Sydney Sixers skipper had to go back.
But as they went up, Sam Billings and Tanveet Sangha raced forward and eventually left each other as the ball fell right between them. The duo then shared a few words as Moises Henriques got another life in the game. Seeing this, David Warner was quite angry.

Moises Henriques finished with an innings of 17 runs off 22 balls
Fortunately, the drop chance didn’t cost Sydney Thunder much as in the next over, Lockie Ferguson removed Moises Henriques. The pacer bowled an artillery ball at short of a length on middle, to which the batsman made room to loft. He ended up hitting high with the bat and looped it to extra cover.
Moises Henriques finished with an innings of 17 runs off 22 balls. But after his wicket, Jordan Silk (36*) and Ben Dwarshuis (20*) put in a great effort with the bat as Sydney Sixers chased down the target with 5 wickets in hand and secured crucial points in the league .
You play the game to be in the moment: Ben Dwarshuis
Ben Dwarshuis, who also picked two wickets with the ball, won Player of the Match and spoke about his innings, saying he enjoyed batting with Jordan Silk. As he elaborated further on his performance, he explained:
“You play the game to be in those moments. Silky and I were like, let’s enjoy it and do our best. That was one of the best we’ve had. They were bad in the gaps. Nice to get a Pocs in the middle .Credit to Greeny who made us wait until the last ball where he didn’t execute perfectly.
“I was just trying to stay very still. Look and react, and trust my hands to do the job. No rocket launcher, just a really nice bat. I was just trying to stay still and swing hard. Loved it to connect a few.”
