Glasgow rangers fell further behind its rivals at the top of the Scottish Premiership table after being beaten 2-1 by St Mirren on Christmas Day.

The Light Blues found themselves 1-0 up at the break, thanks to a Jack Butland penalty, before Danilo and Nicolas Raskin came on at the break.

Philippe ClementThe team’s Brazilian forward fired in the equalizer to set up what could have been a thrilling end to the game from Rangers’ perspective, only for St Mirren to hit back in stoppage time to score a dramatic winner.

Danilo

Dujon Sterling’s error may make the headlines as the reason why the Light Blues lost the game as it was his mistake that created the winner for the hosts.

Dujon Sterling’s performance in numbers

After helping the team keep a clean sheet against Dundee in the previous game, the former Chelsea man was once again selected at the heart of the defence.

There was a lot to like about his performance, again, defensively he won four of his six duels, including his two aerial battles, and made eight clearances, two interceptions, two tackles and a block.

Unfortunately though, as you can see in the clip above, he tried to dribble the ball from behind in stoppage time and was dispossessed, leading to the winning goal.

It was an error of judgment from Sterling, who should have kicked the ball to find a team-mate instead of taking that risk, but his overall performance up to that point had been sublime.

Despite making the mistake that ultimately cost Rangers, Sterling wasn’t the worst player on the pitch. Nedim Bajrami, who started as part of the attacking midfield setup.

Why Nedim Bajrami should be dropped

The Albania international has received the opinion of Danilo, who was withdrawn from the eleven to make room for Hamza Igamane in a centre-forward role, and has been unable to justify his inclusion in the starting eleven.

It was a great opportunity for him to come in and show that he deserves more minutes in the wing, with the likes of Ianis Hagi and Vaclav Cerny starting ahead of him in the attacking midfield positions of late, but he has failed to capitalize your chance

Bajrami was withdrawn from the action at half-time by Clement, with his substitute Danilo scoring, after a poor first-half display from the former Sassuolo star.

As you can see from the table above, the Albanian flop did very little to help the team on the pitch as he lost all four duels, proving that the opposition found it too easy to beat him.

His lack of created chances and shots also shows that the attacking midfielder did nothing to contribute at the top end of the pitch, meaning he was a liability in and out of possession for the Scottish giants .

Sterling, at least, provided plenty of big moments defensively to rescue the team before his costly mistake, while Bajrami consistently let the team down with a lack of quality at both ends.

Glasgow Rangers are reportedly interested in a deal to sign the Premier League jewel.

Therefore, Clement should instantly drop the right-footed dud, who lost the ball ten times of 21 touches, and bring back Danilo from the start on Sunday.
