Chinese BYD claims that 5-minute EV battery charging gives 250 miles from range

Chinese car manufacturer BYD says it has developed a technology that accelerates the battery charging of electric vehicles up to just five minutes at 1000 kilowatt, providing enough energy for nearly 250 miles of driving.

BYD says it plans to implement charging-infrastructure technology in China. The batteries that can charge this quickly will initially be built into two new vehicles from the company, sedan and SUV.

The company did not say how soon it would build this infrastructure or when these vehicles could be available.

Byd did not immediately answer a request for a comment on technology.
