Since the new ownership took over Chelseaand the likes of Paul Winstanley and Laurence Stewart were hired as sporting directors, the Blues have implemented a new recruitment strategy that has taken the league and media world by storm.

The main goal is to acquire young talent from around the world, with the aim of identifying and acting on the best talents before they increase in price.

By picking up these players early, Chelsea can offer lower wages, with incentivized contracts, that reward these players if they develop as expected.

Cole Palmer’s Chelsea record

One transfer that epitomizes Chelsea’s transfer strategy is Cole Palmer, who battled for minutes at Manchester City before moving to the Blues in 2023 for a fee of around £40m with £2.5m add-ons.

Since joining the club, the 22-year-old has proved to be a revelation, breaking records left, right and centre, scoring 37 goals and providing 21 assists in 65 appearancesand he has already played 5,233 minutes for the club in all competitions.

Palmer is now Chelsea’s creative hub, the star man, and a key component for Enzo Maresca, proving that he was not only a future investment, but could instantly improve the team. The England international is now rated €130.00m (£108.1m) according to Transfermarkt.

If recent reports are to be believed, the Blues could be in line to repeat that trick by snapping up another former Man City man…

Chelsea could land Palmer 2.0

According to the The Athletic’s latest transfer sheet Earlier this week, Liam Delap could be a key name on Chelsea’s wishlist in the near future as they look to bring another striker profile to the club, who can offer something different and compete with Nicolas Jackson.

This type of move would once again epitomize the transfer strategy at Chelsea, as Delap just is earning £20,000 a week in Ipswichhe is 21 years old, and is another highly valued player in academy football (like Palmer), who has already worked with Maresca.

Danny Murphy tagged Delap as “super talented“Earlier this season, even claiming to be the”obvious long-term successor“to Harry Kane for England. And it’s not just Murphy who thinks this, as Maresca himself has stated, Delap can be.”an important player for England“.

Comparing Delap and Jackson, you can see that each forward offers something slightly different, with Delap winning more aerial duels and finishing at a slightly more clinical rate (0.21 goals/shots compared to Jackson’s 0.20).

However, Jackson has more progressive actions per 90, creates more through key passes and shot creation actions, and has provided more performance this season (being on a better team should be considered).

Having two strikers who both bring out the best in Palmer in different ways would give Maresca all the necessary tools in the striker department to get the best out of his star man, playing to all of his strengths and keeping teams guessing in terms of his approach.

With a report price around €50m (£40m)the blues could grab the next kane for a relative bargain price.
