Rivals Rangers is one of the other teams in the mix to grab him £45,000 a week ace, with Fiorentina, Lazio, Everton, West Ham, Crystal Palace, Brentford and Leeds United also keen. Bologna, Udinese, Trabzonspor and Besiktas also get a mention highlighting the level of interest in him.
Brownhill may not be the most spectacular midfielder in the world, famed for his industry in the middle of the park, but he could be a strong signing for Celtic, and has scored nine goals in this season’s Championship.
Now 29, the Englishman has a wealth of experience, meaning he would step straight in as a key starter and Lee Hendrie has praised his ability in the past, saying: “He is very energetic, he is very clean and tidy on the ball.
“He gets up and down the pitch well and you know what you’re getting when you get a Burnley player, Sean Dyche, what do you expect. And he’s obviously shown he can take that step up, coming from Bristol City, so he’s certainly I’d wear it all day.”
The fact that Brownhill is available on a free next summer, with Celtic able to strike a deal next month, makes his signing a no-brainer for Rodgers’ men, and it is now a case of winning many other clubs in his signature.
