CBS’s Beyond the Gates: Black Daytime Soap trailer brings the drama

According to the synopsis, Behind the gate has a place in a “posh gated community” in “one of the most affluent African-American counties” near Washington, DC. The Duprees are at the center of the show as “the very definition of black royalty” at the luxury Fairmont Crest community.
“At the center of this community are the Duprees, a powerful and prestigious multi-generational family that is the very definition of black royalty,” the synopsis continued. “But behind these pristine walls and lush manicured gardens lie juicy secrets and scandals waiting to be revealed. And those who live behind these gates are keeping a close eye.’

Behind the gate makes history as the first black soap opera for almost 35 years. The show, which is a joint venture between CBS Studios and the NAACP, is the first daytime soap since Generationswhich ended in 1991 after a 13-month run.
“Gates will be everything we love about daytime drama, with a new and fresh perspective,” CBS Studios NAACP president, Sheila Ducksworthaccording to the March press release. “This series will welcome a traditionally underserved audience and could be a watershed moment for broadcast television. With multi-dimensional characters, juicy storylines and a core of black culture, The Gates will have an impactful presentation, one of the key criteria of this venture.”
Behind the gate there is also leaves its mark in the soap genre since the new daytime show last premiered in 1999 on NBC Passions.
The upcoming show takes Conversationtime when a talk show ends after 15 seasons. CBS announced in April Conversation was renewed for a final season after concerns about cancellation. The network later confirmed that the final week would include holiday shows in anticipation of the show’s final day on Friday, December 20.
Conversationwhich debuted in 2010, was created Sarah Gilbertwho hosted the show for its first nine seasons. Her panel of co-hosts is included Julie Chen Moonves, Sharon Osbourne, Holly Robinson Peet, Leah Remini and Marissa Jarrett Winokur.
