Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that he wants to remain coach of Real Madrid “for as long as possible”.

Madrid have long been tipped to move on from Ancelotti at the end of the season, but Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso has emerged as a possible successor, while reports even named Ancelotti as a possible target for Serie A Roma.

Ancelotti, with whom he has a contract Madrid until 2026, he made it clear that he has no intention of stepping away from his position anytime soon.

“There’s a lot of talk about (Rome), but I’m fine here and I’m working to stay as long as possible,” he said. “(Roma coach Claudio) Ranieri is a friend and he is doing very well, I am happy.

“I have a great relationship with Roma, very good memories, but there is a long way to go from saying to doing. At the moment, I’m good here and I’m not thinking about my future. I still have two years left on my contract, but contracts they can be broken or extended.”

Ancelotti has previously vowed not to manage another club when his time at Madrid ends, although he has long been linked with a switch to international football, with Brazil known to be admirers.

As for Madrid, excap Zinedine Zidane is understood to be open to a return if he ever decides to make a managerial change.
