The US Department of Justice (DOJ) has reportedly reassigned multiple senior officials across departments ahead of the president’s pending confirmation. Donald TrumpNomination of US Attorney General Pam Bondi.

Many career employees in the DOJ’s criminal and national security divisions have been removed from their current positions and reassigned, Fox News has been told.

While it’s difficult to fire a career man “just because,” reassignment is possible, and it seems to have happened.

George Toskas, a veteran deputy assistant attorney general at the national security division, also reportedly helped oversee major terrorism and espionage investigations and was a key figure in politically motivated investigations over the past 10 years.

Toscas was involved in the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s handling of classified information, including the investigation into Trump’s possession of classified documents. Mar-a-Lago in Florida.

Toskas’ reassignment was confirmed to The Associated Press by another person familiar with the matter.

“He’s seen it all, both in counterterrorism and counterintelligence,” a former colleague of Toskas told The Washington Post on condition of anonymity. “There is no one in the department who knows more about pursuing and investigating terrorists and spies than George Toskas.”

The Washington Post also learned from sources familiar with the matter that Eun Young Choi, another assistant attorney general in the national security division, has been reassigned within the department and was notified of the change by email Monday afternoon.

The DOJ declined to comment on the changes.

Hours after Trump was sworn in, the DOJ removed at least four top officials from the division that oversees the nation’s now backlogged immigration courts.

The Washington Post announced a 120-day moratorium on replacing some employees after newly confirmed leaders begin their appointments, according to federal regulations. Bondi has yet to be confirmed; therefore, the moratorium at the DOJ is not yet in effect.

The reasons for the moves were not immediately known, though it is common for a new administration to appoint its own staff to lead the DOJ.

The moves could herald further changes, given Trump’s interest in the department, which investigated him in his first term and charged him twice in separate cases last year but was never prosecuted and withdrawn after Trump’s election victory in November.
