Canon’s new camera is in a category that was once considered practically dead
A new camera for point and shooting? In 2025? This may seem surprising if you are not in the most trends. The reality is the prices of the older compact cameras have passed through the roof. There is a real interest, especially among the younger people, for capable cameras separated from their phones.
Canon follows Nikon, Panasonic’s latest messages and others with her new camera in the category she has ever considered dead. Powershot V1 records 4K video at 60 frames per second, takes 22.3 megapixel photos and has a stabilized lens to increase.
Perhaps the most interesting and hint that there may be more cameras to come in the future is that the V1 has a completely new, 1.4-inch image sensor. Most of the likely competitors of V1, such as Sony ZV-1 II, have 1-inch sensors. The larger sensor usually means better image quality.
For Vloggers and others
- 1.4-inch sensor (similar in size to M4/3))
- 4K60 with vintage, 4k30 full frame with sample down
- 5,760×3,840 photos (22.3 megapixels)
- RAW and C log 3
- 16 to 50mm (35 mm equivalent) f/2.8-4.5 lens
- Dual pixel autofocus
- Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, HDMI (Micro), 3.5mm headphones and 3.5 mm microphone
Missing an electronic viewfinder or built -in flash, V1 is designed mainly for video. It records 4K30 full frame and 4K60 with a light crop. The new sensor uses the same double pixel autofocus as what is located on R6 MKII of Canon. There are both mechanical and electronic blinds, with a maximum shutter speed of 1/2000 for the first, and 1/16 000 for the second.
Obtaining light to this new, relatively large sensor is a F/2.8-4.5 lens, which passes from ultravid 16 mm to more convenient for a portrait of 50 mm (35 mm equivalent). These are GoPro-Levels at a wide angle and you will probably be useful-a very intended-for manual video recording and selfies. The mechanical and electronic stabilization of the image helps to keep the video smoothly and the photos without blurring. There is also a three-stop neutral density filter that allows wider openings or longer exposures in bright light.
For people who want more pro-level control over their videos and photos, both 10-bit C LOG 3 recording and raw images are available. The V1 will include a “dead cat” wind slit for better audio recording outside. There are microphones and headphones, so you can watch and record audio with a separate microphone. The multifunctional shoe on top allows you to connect and feed other canon accessories such as wireless microphones.
Recording 4K video can warm any device so that there is a built -in cooling fan to maintain recorded times (or at least a long timeit).
So … when?
Canon expects to release Powershot V1 at the end of April … something like. Currently, the camera is officially announced only in Japan, Korea, Hong Kong, China and Taiwan. The US edition is probably somewhere in 2025. US prices are also unknown. It’s 148 500 yen in JapanWhich with current currency courses is $ 989. Can this mean $ 999 in the US? This would compete quite well with $ 899 Sony ZV-1 II and its smaller sensor.
