‘Cab driver said I clearly look marriageable’: Woman recalls driver’s ‘unsolicited advice’ on girls should get married at 18/19
A woman’s recent post on Reddit has sparked outrage and concern among social media users after she shared her disturbing experience with a taxi driver who offered unsolicited marriage advice to ignore her attempts, launched into a long lecture about the ideal age for women to marry, suggesting that she should consider marrying before 19.
In her post, the woman expressed her frustration, stating that she usually prefers to listen to music during her commute and avoids interacting with the drivers. However, on this occasion, the driver insisted on asking her personal questions, including her marital status. She described how he commented on her appearance, saying she looked “of marriageable age”, and continued to give her unwanted advice even after she stopped responding.
“He started by asking me if I was married. At this point I was already feeling uncomfortable so I just shrugged. He then proceeds to give me a long lecture about how it’s important for girls to get married at 18/19 I’m apparently of marriageable age.”
Frustrated with these continued remarks, the woman politely asked him to mind his own business. “But this man keeps repeating the same thing until he finally reaches my landing spot. While I’m out of my misery “I mean, he’s trying to tell me not to feel bad about what he said and he’s just trying to tell me the right thing,” he continued.
Emphasizing his displeasure with the current situation, he concluded his post by saying: “How do random men feel so comfortable giving completely random women advice on what to do and when to get married? What a great start to the week!”
The woman reported the incident to the taxi company and gave the driver a low rating, stating that while he usually refrains from such actions, his comments crossed the line.
Social media users reacted strongly to her post, with many suggesting she take further action against the driver. One commenter advised her to report the incident to customer service, stressing the importance of maintaining professionalism in the service industry.
A female user shared her experience. “I remember no uber was available in the area that day so I had to go offline. The guy kept making sarcastic remarks about me. He was obviously charging me twice the other girl passenger. So I asked him , and he said, “es to muh dekh ke litq krtha hu.”
Others offered humorous suggestions on how to deal with unsolicited advice, including answering questions about a driver’s life choices.
This incident follows another recent report of a woman who claimed to have had a terrifying encounter with an Ola cab driver who allegedly threatened her during a ride.
