Contract negotiations are a hot topic, especially when Barstool Sports personalities are involved.

Host of the “Bussin’ With the Boys” podcast. Will Compton and Taylor Levan are in the middle of negotiating a new deal with a media company, and while it might hurt their chances of winning A surviving bar stool season 4, he also raised questions about the future of former NFL stars at Barstool.

“The ‘Bussin’ With the Boys’ team is currently in negotiations for their next contract,” Compton shared during his A surviving bar stool confessional in January 2025. “You have to think when you Dave (Portnoy) and Dan (“Big Cat” Katz)you can’t make the guys from ‘Bussin With the Boys’ go crazy winning $250,000.”

The former footballer, who won Season 3 in 2024, was kicked off the show shortly after his co-host Levan.

“Winning a quarter of a million dollars and then potentially throwing us two at the end of the year,” Compton continued. “So hats off. Tip of the hat. Dave, Big Cat, great guys.

Compton, a former NFL linebacker, signed with the Washington Commanders as a free agent in 2013. He joined the Tennessee Titans in 2018 for one year before signing with the New Orleans Saints in 2019 and then the Las Vegas Raiders. He returned to the Titans for a second stint in 2020 before returning to the Raiders at the end of 2021. By September 2023, Compton announced his retirement from professional football.

Lewan, meanwhile, was drafted as a quarterback by the Titans in 2014 and remained with the organization throughout his career, which ended in 2023 after sitting out the 2022 season with a knee injury.

“Initially, (Barstol said), we’re going to work 50/50, you guys get the IP. We said no, but we’re going 60/40, and the minute we eclipse $1 million, it goes up to 70/30 (in) our favor,” the former athlete explained. “They supported it, then I was like, ‘Holy shit… I think we’ve played the hell out of ourselves.’

Their “second deal” with the company was considered a “competing offer,” meaning they could not shop their show. Compton said he and Lewan have since formed a “profitable” partnership with Barstool.

“I personally wanted to resign from Barstul. I think they’re the best brand for us right now,” Compton said. “We ended up settling at $3 million a year. We have a plus, every dollar earned after $3 million.”

“Dave and I didn’t want Taylor or Will to win $250,000 in cash at Barstool and then two seconds later be like, ‘Oh, by the way, we’re going to a competitor,'” Big Cat said on the January 2025 episode of the competition series.

Portnoy talked about this later in the episode from The Unnamed Podcast in the same month.

“During the filming of (Surviving Barstool), I thought we were going to fire them, but going in, I knew what they were evaluating,” the Barstool Sports founder noted. “They had an offer. They said, “We’ll look at the world, see what it’s like.”

Portnoy “didn’t want” to give one of them $250,000 from the game winnings and force them to leave the company. When asked on the same episode of the podcast if Compton and Levan were leaving the company, Portnoy appeared coy. “I’ll let them do as they please,” he said.

During Art A surviving bar stool final in January 2025, the question remains unanswered.

“When we played that game, I thought they were going back to Barstool,” Portnoy said. (A surviving bar stool was filmed in September 2024. Participants returned for live finale and reunion in January 2025)

Compton hinted that “negotiations are still ongoing” with the show.

“The future of ‘Bussin’ has nothing to do with this show,” Portnoy clarified. At the moment, “Bussin’ With the Boys” podcast. episodes are still released under the Barstool title.
