In a 2021 episode of the We Need to Talk About Britney podcast, her former makeup artist Julianne Kaye described her experience with the singer.

“(Spears) had that place at Sunset Plaza — and I just want to say it’s really amazing … She calls me … I asked a friend of mine to treat her rails,” Kay said at the time. “He came up; I guess she had a crazy weekend and needed to relax. He left and she swears to God he opened some kind of spiritual portal or something and these evil spirits came in … and they tried to, like, push her down the stairs or something crazy.”

Kay said Spears never returned home after the experience, instead staying at the Casa Del Mar hotel.

“She’s like, ‘I know, you’re going to think I’m crazy.’ I’m not crazy. I know what I saw. I know what I felt,” Kaye added.

Murphy also reportedly felt uneasy about the property. In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter in 2010Monjak described in detail the discomfort of the actress with the house.

“She absolutely hated the Rising Glen house,” Monjack said. “Every time we pulled up to Sunset, Britt would say, ‘Can we stay at the Beverly Hills Hotel, please?’ I would say, “Honey, you have to be realistic. We have our own house, a 10,000 square foot house. We will stay in it.”
