BlackBerry Limited (NYSE:BB:) are the shares Thursday traded higher.

The company has announced a rebranding of its division formerly known as BlackBerry IoT, renaming it QNX and rebranding to strengthen its presence in automotive and industrial. embedded industries.

The move, driven by feedback from customers, partners and employees, is a milestone in QNX’s history, highlighting its role in powering the next generation of software-defined machines and mission-critical systems.

Acquired by BlackBerry in 2010, QNX has become a prominent player in real-time operating systems.Last fiscal year, QNX launched QNX SDP 8.0, a scalable foundation for next-generation automotive and IoT systems, as well as QNX Sound , an audio innovation platform for SDVs, and QNX Everywhere, an initiative designed to foster a more open development environment for QNX technologies.

John J. JamateoBlackBerry’s CEO emphasized that this rebranding is part of the company’s strategy to increase visibility and leadership in these areas, focusing on growth and innovation.

QNX technology is already integrated into more than 255 million machines worldwide, as well as critical systems in healthcare, industrial control, robotics, and more.

“BlackBerry is at an inflection point and QNX is well-positioned for the next 10 years as demand for advanced hybrid cloud/edge computing capabilities becomes critical to driving a software-defined future. The investments we’ve made over the past three years put us on a clear path to capitalize on these trends,” said Matthias Eriksson, president of QNX.

To accompany the rebranding, BlackBerry unveiled an updated logo, website and visual identity that will be showcased at CES 2025 in Las Vegas.
