BBC Verify finds nearly 100 strikes in Gaza ‘humanitarian zone’
Gavin Kelleher, manager of access to Gaza at the Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC), said there were “almost daily” strikes inside the zone, including by Israeli ships and quadcopters, or small drones.
He added that “despite (Israel’s) unilateral ‘humanitarian’ designation, heavy fire is repeated in this area.”
“The Israeli military seems interested in maintaining the illusion of a humanitarian zone of some size, but this zone can be subject to ‘evacuation orders’ and targeted at any time,” Mr Kelleher said.
One resident of the area, Khalid Abdul Rahman, told the BBC that residents are bombarded daily, often resulting in casualties and casualties.
“We were moved to Khan Younis because it was designated as a safe zone, but in reality we see nothing but security here,” Mr Rahman said. “We have been denied a real sense of security because our lives are dominated by fear.”
