Barcelona overcame injury-hit Manchester City to finish top of Group D in the Women’s Champions League with a comfortable 3-0 win at the Olympic Stadium.

City, who qualified for the quarter-finals in second place, struggled without stars Khadija Shaw, Chloe Kelly, Alex Greenwood, Vivianne Miedema and Lauren Hemp, and Barcelona needed to win by two clear goals to finish above the visitors by goal difference.

The hosts registered 30 shots, forcing City goalkeeper Khiara Keating into 14 saves, before finally breaking through just before the break when Claudia Pina shot clinically from inside the box.

The closest City came to scoring was when Jill Roord’s long-range shot crashed against the crossbar.

Barca scored their second just before the hour mark when Aitana Bonmati broke free from the City defense and finished through the legs of Keating.

Alexia Putellas put an early end to the win just minutes after coming off the bench, firing past Keating from the edge of the box.
