Scheduled host Aubrey Plaza did not attend the 2025 Golden Globes.
Plaza was absent after the death of her husband, Jeff Brothers. While she wasn’t in attendance at Sunday’s awards ceremony, love was sent her way Brutalist director Brady Corbett mentioned a couple in his acceptance speech.

Aubrey Plaza is scheduled to host on Golden Globe 2025 on Sunday, January 5.
Plaza, 40, bldg announced as one of more than 40 presenters at the 82nd annual Golden Globe Awards on Thursday, January 2. The show will be broadcast live from the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles.
A day after Plaza was announced as the host, her husband Jeff Brothers was found dead at his Los Angeles residence on Friday, January 3. Us Weekly the indie screenwriter later confirmed died by suicide. He was 47.
At the time of writing, Plaza is still listed as the host of the Golden Globes. us reached out to Plaza representatives for comment about her visit, but did not hear back.
Plaza has not yet publicly addressed her husband’s death. The couple, who have kept their relationship mostly private, began dating in 2011 and have been together for almost a decade before tying the knot in 2020.
“A lot of things happened to me during COVID. Yes, we got married. Big deal,” Plaza said of her and Baena’s nuptials during a December 2021 appearance. The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “One night we got a little bored. We got married and I’ll tell you how: Onehourmarriage.com. It’s real, look.”
The Agatha all together alum added: “I created a very quick love altar in our backyard. The facts of our love, pebbles, smoke, fire. Such things. Then a man from the Alhambra appeared in a Hawaiian shirt with a briefcase (to perform the ceremony). … I don’t remember much, it was vague. But I’m pretty sure it’s legit.”
While Baena and Plaza have had their solo careers, they have had several opportunities to work together on numerous projects such as Life after Beth, The Small Hours and Spin me.
“My first film was a huge learning experience on all fronts, and yes it was beneficial to work with her because we have a shorthand and a close relationship,” Baena said of his wife in an August 2022 interview. Newsweek.
“As I’ve done more and more things, I’ve come to appreciate everything she brings,” the late director continued. “She’s insanely talented, so smart and obviously very good at producing. And she writes. There are very few people who can wear as many hats as she does, as elegantly as she does.’
At the time, Baeno further insulted his wife, saying that “everything she does is wonderful,” adding, “People usually point to her as the best role in any project she’s in.”
He concluded, “She’s like, crazy talented and I’m so lucky to have her in my life.”
