The Eaton fire, the second largest in a series of blazes in the city last week, has burned more than 14,000 acres and is 33% contained.

CalFire Deputy Chief Jim Hudson said the Palisades fire had “very little fire growth” on Monday.

Santa Ana winds from the east or northeast could reach 70 mph (112 km/h) on Tuesday, potentially fanning more fires, the BBC Weather Center said.

Forecasters say lighter winds will pick up after Wednesday, giving firefighters an opportunity to further contain the flames.

A curfew remains in effect in the evacuation areas from 18:00 to 06:00 local time.

Newly elected Democrat Senator Adam Schiff of California told the BBC that he hopes the incoming Trump administration will act quickly to avert the disaster.

When asked if wildfires have become increasingly politicized, Schiff said, “There have been people who have been doing this since the fires started.”

“It’s not helpful right now, let’s just focus on putting these fires out, getting people the help they need.”

It is reported that the newly elected President Donald Trump plans to visit the region in the near future.

Federal lawmakers are set to meet Tuesday morning to discuss disaster relief for the state.

President Joe Biden said he was directing hundreds of federal workers, air and ground support to California and that his team would “respond” to any requests for more help.

“Our hearts ache for the 24 innocent lives we lost.
