Dust off your doublets and turn off all the lights, because the report is from Deadline shows that not only “The Goonies” (one of the best movies for kids) received the treatment for a sequel, but family movie legend Chris Columbus is also working on a third Gremlins movie.

Look, we know, okay? We’re also afraid to raise our excitement levels one iota when it comes to these two nostalgic nuggets, given the history of both franchises trying to squeeze out another story over the past few decades. As it stands, Gremlins progressed a bit, at least in animated form, when the prequel series Gremlins: Secrets of Mogwai aired on Max in 2023. Even the director of two original films, Joe Dante thought the show could be Gremlins 3, which made for enjoyable viewing. Still, in his eyes, it’s a franchise that needed to be reinvented.

“I think it’s inevitable,” Dante told /Film back in 2022. – The name is too well known to do nothing with it. So eventually someone will do something with her, and that’s fine, as long as she’s not too much CGI.” It’s a balance that can surely be found for a third movie, if that happens. It’s the second chapter of The Goonies, which may be more difficult to unearth.

Could The Goonies really be coming back for a sequel?

There are many reasons why “The Goonies 2” never happened. There are also a bunch of reasons why this could be. Before his death, the film’s first director, Richard Donner, fought hard to send us back to Gun Doki, but unfortunately it never came to pass. There also seemed to be a difference of opinion among some of the film’s original cast about even an entertaining idea. Josh Brolin questioned why this would even happen, and Martha Plimpton, who played Steph in the original film, shot down the last batch of rumors that surfaced last year.

One of the original members of The Goonies always hoped that we would see the treasure hunting team again in some form or another. Talking to The Huffington Post in 2017, Sean Astin said, “It’s always possible. I will say that it is very likely to happen. I don’t know when, but I was always sure that this sequel was going to happen mainly because (producer) Steven Spielberg told me since I was a kid that he wanted it to happen and never changed his mind. “. For now, we can only hope that both of our dreams finally come true and that, above all, Corey Feldman gets at least one phone call.
