A Quebec man has died in a boat explosion that injured six people at a South Florida marina this week, officials said.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) spokeswoman Arielle Callender told CBC News that the explosion happened Monday and that the man was 41-year-old Sebastien Gauthier.

Gauthier was among seven passengers aboard the 37-foot (11.3-meter) boat at Lauderdale Marina in Fort Lauderdale.

According to preliminary information, the ship exploded after its engines were started, Callender said.

Six other passengers were taken to the hospital for treatment.

An investigation by the FWC is ongoing, Callender said.

“Our deepest condolences to Mr. Gauthier’s family and friends at this difficult time,” he wrote.
