Apple is developing a doorbell that unlocks with your face, the report says
Move, ring: Apple is reportedly working on a smart doorbell — one that unlocks for household members it recognizes.
Apple’s doorbell will have advanced facial recognition technology that connects wirelessly to a deadbolt lock, according to Bloomberg report. The doorbell will unlock the door for people it recognizes, functioning similarly to Face ID iPhone. The product is not expected to be released until the end of 2025 at the earliest.
The report is in line with Apple’s broader vision to deepen its footprint in the smart home market, where it has historically lagged behind rivals such as Google and Amazon.
The company did not respond to a request for comment.
there is already smart locks using facial recognition in the market, but Apple may have a competitive advantage in this space due to its strong commitment to consumer privacy, which could potentially make consumers more comfortable accepting Apple services and devices in and around their homes.
Apple is also developing home security camera to rival products like Google’s Nest and Amazon’s Ring, Bloomberg added. The camera is expected to integrate with Apple’s a rumored smart home hubdesigned to manage connected devices in the household.
The move into the security camera market could also drive adoption of iCloud subscriptions, where video footage from those devices will be stored, according to the report.
