It is reported that buildings shook as a result of a 6.9-magnitude earthquake in Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal.

A 6.9-magnitude earthquake occurred in Shigatse, Tibet.

The quake struck at 9:05 a.m. local time (01:05 GMT) at a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles), according to a separate statement from the China Earthquake Networks Center.

Strong tremors were also felt in Nepal’s capital, Kathmandu, about 400 km (250 miles) away, prompting residents to flee their homes, according to Indian media.

The US Geological Survey located the epicenter of the earthquake near Lobuche, Nepal, on China’s mountainous border with Tibet.

Buildings were reported shaken in Kathmandu, about 150 km (93 miles) southeast of Lobuche.
