AC Milan attempt to revive fortunes after appointing Conceicao

AC Milan have moved quickly to name a successor to Paulo Fonseca, with Sergio Conceicao at the San Siro.

Fonseca was sacked this morning as expected after he hinted his tenure was over following last night’s 1-1 draw with Roma.

That result left Milan eighth in the Serie A table, 14 points behind joint leaders Atalanta and Napoli.

Fonseca coached Milan for 24 games in total, winning 12 and the highlight being a 3-1 win at Real Madrid in the Champions League.

The club chose to act on reports suggesting Fonseca was due a reduced payment if he was sacked within six months of his appointment.

Milan are hoping that their Portuguese compatriot Conceicao will do better.

Serie A experience

The former midfielder has a wealth of Serie A experience having played for Lazio, Parma and Inter. He resigned as Porto boss in June after seven years in the job.

During his time at the Estadio do Dragao, he led Porto to three Primeira Liga titles and four Taco de Portugal crowns.

A statement from Milan said: “AC Milan announces that Sérgio Paulo Marceneiro da Conceição has been appointed head coach of the men’s first team until June 30, 2026.

“The Club extends a warm welcome to Sérgio and his staff, wishing him a journey full of success and achievements.”
