Aaron Rodgers says the Jets’ season finale against the Dolphins could be his last NFL game
Aaron Rodgers acknowledged that Sunday’s game could be his last in the NFL.
Rodgers was questioned by reporters New York JetsWednesday’s season finale against the Miami Dolphins could be the last of his career.
“Yes, of course,” Rodgers replied.
Rodgers hasn’t made any final decisions yet, but he says he will before free agency begins in March. Rodgers is under contract with the Jets for next season and is set to earn $23 million. However, the Jets are also set to hire a new head coach and general manager in the offseason after the regime that brought Rodgers to New York fired Robert Saleh and Joe Douglas midseason.

“I’m more resigned to the reality of the situation,” Rodgers said of the stakes of Sunday’s game. “I think there’s going to be a change here, and if I’m not a part of (the change), then I want to make sure everyone knows that I have nothing but gratitude for my time here.”
He added that he expects the new head coach and general manager to make a quick decision about his future with the team.
“I don’t think we’re going to go that far,” Rodgers said. “There’s going to be a regime change here, at least with GM. Whatever they do, I’m sure I’ll get a call or a chat and go from there.”
Rodgers missed nearly his entire freshman season last year after suffering a season-ending Achilles injury in the Jets’ Week 1 opener against the Buffalo Bills. This year, the Jets went 4-12 despite Rodgers having a full healthy season.

“I’m disappointed with the performance, both myself and as a team, but I’m really grateful for the opportunity. If I feel good, if I want to come back and run again, that would be fantastic, but I’m not naive to the situation we’re in.”
The season was also physically taxing for Rodgers. After his four sacks against the Buffalo Bills last Sunday, he became the most sacked quarterback in NFL history. He has been sacked 568 times in 247 career games, more than three times Tom Brady’s 565 career sacks. Russell Wilson is also up there with 556 sacks.
The Jets quarterback has been sacked 37 times this season. He led the league in rushing twice in his career – both while with the Green Bay Packers.

Still, Rodgers considers his last two years in New York the best of his life.
“Honestly, I mean gratitude. It’s been the best two years of my life,” Rodgers said. “It’s a perspective adjustment that happened at some point in the rehab process last year. Just the excitement, falling back in love with the game, meeting these guys here, meeting the great men and women that work here. It’s obviously less expectations on the field, this game is more than that. it’s a lot.”
