A Lyft driver in Texas was brutally attacked while driving and says the driver cut her throat, tried to strangle her and hijacked her car.

Dilawer Burke, 25, has since been released from the hospital, but he remains bedridden and says he’s thankful to be alive. Fox 4.

The suspect, Antwain Williams, 19, was charged with robbery with a deadly weapon and evading arrest. He also had an outstanding warrant for allegedly encouraging a child to perform a sexual act.

Berk now has stitches in his neck and bandages covering the deep wounds on his hands.

Berk told police he picked Williams up Monday evening while driving for Lyft Frisco, Texas ;.

When they arrived at Williams’ destination at Legends at Legacy Apartments, 3700 Legacy Drive, just before 6 p.m., Berk said the suspect attacked him from behind with a knife and then a cable or wire to strangle him.

“Atyli cut Dilawar’s throat with a knife. He did it several times,” Burke’s friend Dustin Tovey told Fox 4.

“Dilaver put his hands right in front of the knife and asked the rider, ‘What do you want, leave me alone?’ Then he put a wire around his neck and Dilawer reached out as he stabbed her several times.

Williams stole Burke’s Toyota Camry and left it in the parking lot of an apartment building, Frisco police said. A woman nearby helped Burke and called 911 to report the incident.

Hours later, a patrol officer located the vehicle near Highway 423 and Rockhill. The police tried to pull the driver over, but he sped away to avoid the police.

Police said Williams crashed and attempted to flee on foot, but was eventually arrested.

Berk moved to Texas from Turkey last year and sends money to his parents back home.

“He’s someone who works really hard and it’s really sad to see what happened to him,” Tovey said. “Nobody deserves it, especially Dilawar because he works so hard.”

Williams remains in custody Denton County Jail.
