A major redesign of Siri may be slow again, the report says
Following the next Siri update, which is now expected in May after some delay, it is possible for a more major repair of the virtual assistant to arrive until 2027. BloombergS Apple originally announced an updated Siri in WWDC in June 2024, but this update was delayed About 11 months due to bugs. Not only does this affect the release of new Siri features in iOS 19 – WWDC 2025 is expected in June – but it also creates a pulsating effect on the wider Apple ambitions for iOS 20 and after.
According to the report, Siri in iOS 18 essentially has two separate systems. One is for classic Siri commands, such as setting timers and making calls, and other handles more extensive requests using user data. However, Apple Intelligence must rely on these two systems working together.
The plan eventually unites them – under the systemic name “LLM Siri” – is expected for iOS 19, probably debuts soon in WWDC with an official start next spring. But sources told Bloomberg that Siri of the next generation, which is expected to be much more spoken and intuitive, would not be ready until iOS 20 in 2027.
The company did not respond to a request for a comment.
The delay can put Apple in a significant drawback as rivals like Openai and Google are developing more intelligent assistants. The ultimate goal remains to make Siri more conspicuous and capable of dealing with daily tasks.
Meanwhile, the delays come when Apple is preparing to launch Apple Intelligence in China. It is reported that the company has partnered with local companies to bring the software in China later this year, adapting it to comply with government regulations that limit what information on the iPhone users may have access.
At the same time, however, Dan Ives, a senior Wedbush Securities analyst, said Apple uses a different approach to AI from its competitors, the time may not be as much as it seems.
“We are watching Apple playing a different game as they are LLM agnostics. It’s about Apple Intelligence as a platform for AI developer,” he said. “A new Siri design will happen, but not overnight.”
He added: “Apple is a collector of AI fees at his app store. We appreciate 25% of the world who (ultimately) will gain access to AI via an Apple device.”
