A Florida resident was injured in a fight with a bear while rescuing the family dog

A Florida man last month, a black bear cub was bitten in the stomach while trying to break up a fight between the wild animal and his family’s beloved dog.

Blake Sprout said her dog was chasing the bear cub, which was close to its mother and two other cubs, after she let the dog out of her Volusia County home around midnight on Dec. 20. FOX 35 Orlando informed.

“He growled and charged and just latched onto my stomach,” Sprout told the bear news agency.

The dog, a Pomeranian named Karensaid they were attacked first.

“There were three bears, and my dogs saw them and ran straight to them,” he said.

A neighbor captured the attack on video, showing Sprout running into the yard to intervene as the bear was in Karen’s mouth.

“I ran up to him and kicked him in the chest to throw him off,” Sprout said.

Sprout said she intervened because Karen was being attacked because she was “part of the family.”

“I couldn’t sit there and watch him die. My kids love him,” she said. “I couldn’t tell them at Christmas, ‘Our dog is gone.'”

The bears were then trapped and relocated by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC).

“The FWC bear management team set traps on the property and successfully captured three cubs and an adult female bear before relocating the family group,” the agency said in a statement.

It is legal to shoot and kill in Florida bear in self-defense or to defend certain property.
