A 6.2-magnitude earthquake occurred in the southwest of Mexico

A 6.2-magnitude earthquake occurred in southwestern Mexico on Sunday. The US Geological Survey reported on this. There is no information about casualties and damage yet.

The quake struck about five miles from the municipality of Coalcoman de Vazquez Pallares, a town of about 20,000 people, about 372 miles west of the capital, Mexico City. The earthquake occurred at a depth of 53 miles.

Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said this social media platform X The national emergency services said there were “no new developments” at Coalcoman and they have initiated review protocols.

Mexico sleeps five tectonic plates this makes it one of the most earthquake-prone countries in the world, especially along the Pacific coast.

In 1985, a magnitude 8.1 earthquake off the Pacific coast devastated much of central and southern Mexico, killing thousands and causing extensive damage to Mexico City.

As a result of the 7.1-magnitude earthquake that occurred on September 19, 2017, 369 people were killed, most of them in the capital.

On the same day in 2022hours after millions of people took part in a mock earthquake safety drill, central mexico was hit by another earthquake. The effects of the 7.6 magnitude earthquake extended 1,500 miles to the north. Four-foot-tall waves began crashing inside a Death Valley cave called Devils Hole.
