Built on Bluesky, Pinksky carries its app on Instagram on Android
Android Bluesky users already have access to a new app that works more as Instagram than X. On Tuesday, an app called Pinksky launched Android version From his photocentric experience on social networks, built on top of Bluesky.
The app is now one of the many An attempt to court former Instagram users by offering a similar user interface to the Meta application, but one that is built on open technology. Many of the newcomers in this space, such as Pinksky, are built at the top of the existing social network Blissfulallowing them to take advantage of users’ social connections and emissions.
However, this also limits the applications to the own restrictions of Bluezki to four photos of a post and videos up to one minute.
The PinkSky application is created by a developer Ramon SusaA full stack developer whose work is largely focused on working with web technology.
He tells TechCrunch that he was inspired to build a Pinksky, which was already attracted to opening technology such as Activitypub (Mastodon Power Protocol), and another open NOSTR social protocol. Meanwhile, Bluesky uses the more in Protocol (or ATPROTO), which currently promotes a wave of experiments from the community of the developers of Inde.

However, while Pinksky looks and feels a lot like Instagram, Souza believes that applications will reach a different audience.
“There are several consumer segments on Instagram: those who watch a lot of drums, those who follow content makers, and those who want to contact friends,” he explains in response to a TechCrunch question. “I think Pinksky fits into the third segment – more focused on photos and connections than on viral and repetitive content.”
In other words, it is rather a classic experience focused on Instagram photos.
The app had previously been available for iOS Where it offers a familiar type of Instagram, which includes user profiles with photos, photo and videos, and stories section where publications remain visible in just 24 hours. Users can engage in publications through comments and like them, which are also synchronized to the Bluesky client application.
As it is built on the top of Bluesky, the social networks of users will now be available when they enter the app for the first time – assuming that they have a Bluesky account.
So far, the app is just an experiment, but Susa says this can change if there is additional interest. For example, he would consider integration with other technologies such as Mastodon, Pixels or Nostr or performing his own case. But since he currently covers the cost of Pinksky, extensions will probably have to include some business model – such as paying premium features.
