Chapter 31 looks so familiar

Star Trek: Chapter 31 takes the franchise down a path less traveled by bringing back the great Philippa Georgiou (Michelle Yeoh) from Star Trek: Discovery and putting her in charge of the heist. Unlike the heist-themed Star Wars of 2016’s Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, the often more idealistic and pacifist Trek takes a much more light-hearted route. Star Trek: Chapter 31 is B movie trash in the best possible way, while Academy Award-winner Yoh rocks his new half-tyrant role as the head of perhaps the most disjointed team a Star Trek project has ever given fans.

Among the key members of the special operations team in the film’s Chapter 31 is the unpredictable and intense Faz, who probably wouldn’t have been a main character in almost any other Star Trek movie. The role of Faz is played by South African actor Sven Ruigrok, a rising star who has been making a name for himself in recent years, both in genre fiction and beyond. Here’s where you might have seen him before.

Prior to Chapter 31, Sven Ruigrok played a prominent role in The Warrior.

Until canceled and moved to Netflix in late 2023. Max “Warrior” was among the best things on TV. The eternally unsung 19th-century martial arts crime drama has had a rough life, but could potentially get another season if it proves to be a proper hit on Netflix. For now, though, fans who’ve already seen the show will just have to settle for re-watching … and spot some amazing guest stars while they’re at it.

In the stellar Warrior Season 3, one of those guest stars is none other than Sven Ruigrok. He appears in episode 6 titled “A Soft Heart Won’t Do You Any Favors” as Carter’s prominent but conflicted antagonist. When Richard Lee (Tom Weston-Jones) and Wang Chao (Hung Lee) find themselves chained aboard a train bound for their native Georgia, they must put aside their personal differences to survive the wrath of Aunt Violet (Patricia Boyer). whose sons Lee killed. Carter is one of Lee’s cousins, and Lee is devastated to learn that the promising young man has become nothing more than a pawn – especially since it is partly due to Lee’s own actions.

Chao and Lee ultimately escape the clutches of the angry family, and it ends in a way that gives us every reason to believe that this is the last we’ll see of Carter. So whether or not The Warrior ever continues his story, fans of Ruigrok can rest assured that his character arc is coming to a pretty definite conclusion.

One Piece assigned Sven Ruygrok as a henchman

Star Trek: Chapter 31 isn’t the first time Sven Ruigrok has played a rogue character: the actor previously played the pirate Kabbaji in Netflix’s adaptation of Eiichir Oda’s popular manga One Piece. The shirtless, unkempt-haired knife-throwing expert is one of clown Buggy’s (Jeff Ward) chief henchmen, and his knife-throwing wheel of death can make life extremely uncomfortable for an inmate.

Cabaji has a special opinion of Roronoa Zoro (Makenew), a pirate hunter who ends up with the Straw Hat Pirates. Naturally, the two blade-wielding characters come face-to-face when Kabbaji captures Zoro in his knife-throwing wheel of death in One Piece Season 1 Episode 2, The Man in the Straw Hat. Even though Cabbaji isn’t as much of a threat to the main character as he’d like to believe, the time they spend together is nevertheless pivotal to Zoro’s story, as it marks the first moment he openly expresses his support of Manka D. Luffy (Ignacy Godoy) .

In the source material, Cabaji hangs around for a long time, serving as a trusted lieutenant-slash-henchman for Buga and a certain future villain whose appearance we won’t spoil here. It remains to be seen if the show intends to keep him around to the same extent, but given that it’s only just begun to touch on the character’s acrobatic abilities, it’s possible to expect more from Ruigrok in the series. ‘the second season.

Sven Ruigrok has a wealth of experience on both the big and small screen

Sven Ruigrok rose to fame in his native South Africa starring in the 2010 boarding school comedy drama The Spud, where he played a student known as Rambo alongside John Cleese and musician-actor Troye Sivan (X-Men: Origins: Wolverine, “Idol”). He also reprized the role in the two film sequels, Fallout 2: The Madness Continues (2013) and Fallout 3: Learning to Fly (2014).
