TikTok: Trump ‘will take action’ to stop ban, adviser says
“We’re going to take action to black out TikTok,” Waltz said Thursday.
He noted that the law allows a 90-day extension for ByteDance if significant progress is made toward the sale.
“It actually buys President Trump time to keep TikTok going,” Waltz said.
A day earlier, the incoming national security adviser hinted to Fox News that Trump was planning an executive order to end the ban.
It is unclear, however, whether any such measure could circumvent a law passed by Congress.
The app was banned on national security grounds due to concerns that data could be collected by the Chinese Communist Party.
But according to the New York Times, Trump has invited TikTok CEO Shaw Zi-Chew to sit in an honorary position at the presidential inauguration next Monday.
