This Smart Home Pod promises powerful new tricks to stop porch pirates
Hyce is a startup with a vision. Unveiled at CES 2025, the company created a delivery lock box made for the modern age of porch pirates — and is packed with smart technology to solve a problem 1 in 6 Americans has had one.
like you can read in our guidepacking boxes are being revived by companies like Loxx Boxx, Adoorn and Keter as ways to stop all kinds of packaging theft with a really good box. But Virtue surpasses previous efforts with more features, added intelligence and impressive design. That’s why it might be the best defense against porch pirates yet.
Hyve’s original take on an age-old solution
I noticed a few interesting additions to this new locker, including:
- Carbon fiber link to keep the case secure. Shipping boxes aren’t very easy to move, but if you’re worried about thieves grabbing the whole box, then you can use this quarter inch cable to secure it to a post or railing for safe storage.
- Accelerometer to trigger a siren if the box is tampered with. Tamper Alert will also send you a phone alert to let you know when someone unauthorized might have tried to get inside.
- An app to “disable” the delivery box or send special unlock codes to delivery services, family, friends and more. When a code is used, the owner may receive an alert update. The app can also connect to some existing smart home security systems, but details on that are scarce for now.
- A small window at the top of the package so that the delivery person can take a photo to confirm delivery, meeting both the owner’s and the delivery company’s requirements (this feature is particularly common sense and I haven’t seen another box with it ).
- Compatibility with return package pickup software.
Hyve’s app provides tamper warnings, alerts about people using codes, and more.
These additions make Hyve unique among many delivery boxes, but Hyve Security also wants to achieve something even more ambitious. The floor was made to encourage retailers to spend less money on the outer packaging. If everyone had a shipping box, for example, companies could theoretically cut back on packaging materials designed to protect against weather or theft, helping the environment and reducing the package’s carbon footprint.
That’s a lofty goal, but it shows where Hyve Security is coming from. The company was founded by Melissa Keeling (founder of freezer bag company Packit) and her son to solve this specific household problem. You won’t have to wait too long if you want to get your hands on one: Buyers will be able to purchase the Hyve shipping package from June 2025. at a cost of $300.
