MARTA bus driver killed by three juveniles

Three juveniles have reportedly been charged after they were accused of fatally shooting a MARTA bus driver. Leroy Ramosmore than $2.50 for a bus ride.

According to USA TodayRamos was fatally shot on Friday, January 3rd at around 6:30 p.m. press release shared by MARTA “Three juveniles got into an argument with Ramos at the Decatur Station bus loop and Ramos was shot.”

USA Today notes that Ramos was 47 years old and started working for MARTA in October 2024. It is reported that he is survived by his wife and three children.

Finally, a GoFundMe started in his honor raised more than $11,000 of the $55,500 goal.

“This tragic accident occurred over a fare dispute resulting in the loss of a life worth far more than $2.50! Our family is experiencing this senseless act of violence firsthand and is grieving the loss of a soul that was precious and so precious to us 3 days into the new year,” the company’s description reads in part.

According to USA Todaytwo of the three juveniles were arrested the night of the fatal shooting. According to MARTA’s press releasethe third minor contacted the police on Monday, January 6.

“The two suspects were immediately arrested and charged with murder. A third suspect in the shooting turned himself in to DeKalb County police this evening and has been charged with murder,” the release said.

Additionally, the identities and ages of the minors have not been released due to their juvenile status. However, they were reportedly charged as adults.

“MARTA is devastated by the killing of bus operator Leroy Ramos, a new hire and ATU member who has already made an impact on his fellow operators,” a MARTA spokesman said. USA Today. “MARTA has a strict de-escalation policy designed to protect operators from violence, which includes not interacting with customers outside of their position as a bus operator and relinquishing enforcement to MARTA police.”

A mother in California also died after the shocking shooting

The death of Leroy Ramos is sadly not the only tragedy to strike amid the recent holiday season. How Shadow room Jesinha Mina, a 22-year-old mother from California, died in December, it was previously reported. At the time, it was reported that she was accidentally shot by her two-year-old son.

Police subsequently arrested the mother’s 18-year-old boyfriend, Andrew Sanchez.
