Scottie Scheffler: World number one pulls out of PGA Tour season opener after hand injury on Christmas Day | golf news
World number one Scottie Scheffler has withdrawn from the opening tournament of the 2025 PGA Tour season after suffering a hand injury while preparing dinner on Christmas Day.
The Sentry takes place Jan. 2-5 at The Plantation Course at Kapalua in Maui, Hawaii, but the 2024 FedExCup champion has been ruled out for three to four weeks.
Scheffler successfully defended his title at the Hero World Challenge earlier this month, but will now require surgery for his incident.
“On Christmas Day while preparing dinner, Scottie was punctured in the palm of his right hand by broken glass,” shared his manager, Blake Smith, in a statement.
“Small shards of glass were left in the palm which required surgery.
“He’s been told he should be back to 100% in three to four weeks. Unfortunately, he’ll have to retire from The Sentry.”
Scheffler’s next scheduled tournament is The American Express, which will take place in California from January 16-19.
The 28-year-old became the first player to win The Players, The Masters and the FedExCup in the same season.
