24 of the best board games to give in 2025
Agricola is one of the best board games ever designed and is one of the best examples of worker accommodation mechanics. The concept is simple: players everyone use their farmer and spouse (both called “workers”) to complete various actions as the seasons progress, such as the collection of wood or vegetables, upgrading their farmer’s house, construction pens, buying animals, children and more. Over time, players have children (more workers to use) and expand their farm. The problem during all this is a shortage: Agricola is a harsh game. Even without an opponent to block you from certain actions, you often feel as if you are just scraping – you get enough food to feed your family for the winter. Players often end with very few (or negative) points in their first game, but when you start learning, it feels incredibly satisfying.
