Hug the face researchers aim to build an “open” version of Openai’s Deep Research Tool
A group of developers at AI Dev Platform Hugging Face, including Thomas Wolf, co -founder of the company and a major scientist, say they have built an “open” version of Deep Research Tool of OpenaiS
Deep Research, which Openai revealed during an event on Sunday, crawl the network to compile research reports on each subject. Although impressive, Deep Research is currently only available in a limited review of users subscribed to Openai’s Pro Plan Plan for $ 200 per month.
The hug project they call open deep research consists of AI model – OPEAI’s O1 – and open source agricultural frame that helps the model plan its analysis and directs it to use tools as search engines. O1 is a patented model (ie closed behind a paid API), but the team says it has achieved better results from “open” models such as R1 on DeepseekS
In less than 24 hours, researchers were able to use the O1 to use a simple, text-based browser and a “text inspector” toolkit to read files on the web. An open deep study can be autonomously oriented, the team says, scrolling through pages, manipulating files, and even performing data calculations.
At GAIA, an indicator of General AI assistants, Open Deep Research achieves a result of 54%. This is compared to the result of Openai Deep Research of 67.36%.
I tried open deep research in Public demonstration The team was set up – but it couldn’t make it work. The page was under heavy load during publication; After 10 minutes, she spit out an error message.
But researchers say they are committed to improving the experience and have made The source code available on GITHUB for checking and feedback.
It is worth noting that there is a number Openai Deep Research ‘Reproductions’ On the web, some of which rely on open models and tools. The main component that they – and open deep research – the absence is O3, the model is at the heart of deep research.
A little if there are any, the models beat O3 on indicators related to answering complex questions and collection of information. In addition to an open model for O3 rival, the alternatives of deep research may not be quite measured to the real thing.
