FTC slows down the application of clicking rule to office
Federal Committee on Trade I voted on Friday To delay the implementation of the rule for a negative option-widely known as the “click to the office” rule, requiring companies to make it easier to cancel a subscription as much as they register.
The rule that was Suggested for the first time in 2023focused on a business selling physical and digital subscriptions-all of the streaming services to a member of fitness-by-the-way registration, just in order for customers to find later that they need to go through a much more complicated or time-consuming process to cancel.
According to the negative option rule, businesses will not be able to force customers to cancel subscriptions through a method other than the one they used for registration – so if you have registered with a few clicks on the company’s website, you should also be able to cancel their website. Companies are also required to provide appropriate cancellation information before collecting customer payment information.
According to FTC, The rule came into force On January 19, but the application of some provisions slowed until May 14. Now FTC is slowing down with another 60 days, until July 14.
“After conducting a new gravity assessment, which coaches compliance with that date, the Commission determined that the initial period of postponement had insufficiently taken into account the complexity of compliance,” the FTC said.
The Commission votes 3-0 to delay the implementation. FTC traditionally has five commissioners – three of the President Party and two from the enemy party – but President Donald Trump fire the two democratic commissioners In March. These commissioners then brought a case against TrumpArguing that their dismissal violated the Supreme Court, that the President could not fire the FTC commissioners for no reason.
Despite the delay, FTC said it would really start applying on July 14, when “regulated subjects have to follow.”

“Of course, if this attempt to implement the rule, the Commission is open to change the rule of dealing with any such problems,” added FTC.
