Bezos ‘very optimistic’ about Trump admin space agenda

Jeff Bezos, owner of aerospace company Blue Origin, is “very optimistic” about the incoming White House administration, despite President-elect Trump’s close ties to SpaceX CEO Elon Musk.

Early Monday morning, Blue Origin cleared the launch of its New Glenn rocket Cape Canaveral “to address the vehicle subsystem.” The company said at X that it is reviewing options for the next launch attempt.

New Glen is A 30-story rocket It is expected to chip away at SpaceX’s market dominance and launch Blue Origin’s long-term entry into the satellite launch business.

“Elon has been very clear that he’s doing this for the public good, not for his own personal gain. And I take him at face value,” Bezos told Reuters on Sunday.

Musk, who has spent more than a quarter of a billion dollars campaigning for Trump had the President-elect’s ear on space issues.

Last month, Musk said the U.S. should send missions directly to Mars rather than the moon first, fueling industry concerns about a major overhaul of NASA’s space exploration program.

“My opinion is that we should do both. we’ve got to go to the moon and we’ve got to go to Mars,” Bezos said when asked if he was concerned about changes to NASA’s lunar program.

“What we should not do is start and stop things, we must definitely continue the lunar program,” he said.

Bezos, chairman and founder of Amazon, is the world’s second-richest person with a fortune of $233.1 billion, according to Forbes.

Amazon donated $1 million to Trump’s inaugural fund and will broadcast the event on its Prime Video service.Bezos met with Trump, but told Reuters “we didn’t really talk about space.”

Trump, in his second term as president, is expected to make sweeping changes to NASA’s lunar program and focus heavily on sending missions to Mars.
