Ahsoka Season 2 Rumors Teases Beloved Star Wars Jedi’s Appearance
The first season of “Ahsoka” marked the franchise’s biggest leap in bringing the animated part of the property, initiated by George Lucas heir Dave Filoni, into the world of live action. The fan-favorite Jedi (played by Rosario Dawson) finally gets a long-awaited sequel after the events of Star Wars: The Clone Wars and Star Wars: Rebels as she reunites with her old team. Sabine Wren (now played by Natasha Liu Bardizza) and Geri Sindula (Mary Elizabeth Winstead) to track down the missing Ezra Bridger (Eman Esfandi). The new series left us on another cliffhanger, ending at the end of season one, with the menacing old Grand Admiral Thrawn (Lars Mikkelsen) intent on conquering the galaxy as a whole.
All this means that the pieces are in place for a very busy and action packed Season 2, which has been confirmed in development today is almost exactly a year ago. However, the latest rumors circulating make it seem like we’ve only scratched the surface. If this report is anything to go by, the second season will apparently see the return of two of Ahsoka’s most famous and beloved compatriots. Spoiler alert: These are two of the most important Force-sensitive figures with a lightsaber to ever appear in canon.
Towards the end of the last series “The Christian Harloff Show”, host Christian Harluff dropped a few bombshells, the first of which concerns the return of Hayden Christensen’s Anakin Skywalker. According to Harloff, the actor is expected to play a “pretty big role” in the upcoming season after briefly reprized his Star Wars role in Ahsoka. But even that pales in comparison to the revelation that – get this – Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi will also return. More details below!
Obi-Wan Kenobi is rumored to return in Ahsoka Season 2
Well, hello! After bringing Anakin Skywalker back from the dead (so to speak) in the first season of Ahsoka, creator Dave Filoni and second-in-command Jon Favreau seem to have decided to give the same treatment to another popular Jedi in season 2, Anakin’s mentor, Obi-Wan Kenobi. Teasing even more news to come in the next episode, Christian Harloff revealed the development in his latest episode of the podcast, leaving fans with as many questions as answers. The series is obviously set after the events of both the prequel and the original trilogy, long after Anakin has turned to the Dark Side, defeated his old friend Obi-Wan on the Death Star, and finally met his end at the hands of his son of Luke. Therefore, how exactly will Ahsoka Season 2 make this work in terms of the main timeline?
Well, another interesting tidbit shown by Harloff would seem to answer this question quite succinctly. The podcast host also included the news that Ariana Greenblatt (best known for playing young Gamora in Avengers: Infinity War) will also reprise her role as young Ahsoka. Connecting the dots, this likely suggests that we’re in for more flashbacks and/or visions of the past, featuring younger versions of Ahsoka, Anakin, and now Obi-Wan in the thick of the action during the famous Clone Wars, as seen in various episodes of the animated series.
Of course, this would mark McGregor’s last appearance as the Jedi Knight after he already marked his grand return in 2022’s Disney+ limited series Obi-Wan Kenobi. For Filoni and Favreau, this would be just their latest nostalgic play in the rapidly expanding collection of Star Wars projects known colloquially as the Mando-Verse. Stay tuned to /Film for new updates as they come.
